Need backups? Why go to the expense of buying a DAT jukebox when you have Lego to spare...

http://homepage.mac.com/brother_lizardo/PhotoAlbum3.html

Note that this is not my handiwork - I don't have that much Lego, or time, on my hands. I just got a cheap laugh from this and wanted to share it...

ICANN are inviting bids to run the .org registry. This is because there is a percieved need for it to be run by some organisation other than the current .org registry, the commercial company Verisign GRS (aka Network Solutions).

A number of bids exist. Some are for-profit, others are not-for-profit.

One stands out. They plan to run .org in an not-for-profit, open and transparent manner - as a public trust.

They have the backing of the Internet Multicasting Service, and the Internet Software Consortium. They are supported by some of the most respected people in the industry, Paul Vixie, Carl Malamud, Daniel Karrenberg, to name a few. People with a track record of working for the benefit of the whole Internet.

They have gathered together some of the best experts in DNS and registry: Rick Wesson, Suzanne Woolf, Joe Abley, Michael Graff, oh, and did I mention Paul Vixie? ;-)

What does this mean for you? It means a .org which is open, transparent and accountable to the Internet community. Not open to the fickleness of analysts and the whims of the stock market. Not open to corruption. A .org that's here to stay.

Why are people so goddam rude and selfish?

Sure, look out for yourself, but look out because there are other people on this planet as well as you, just in case you didn't notice!

I am fed up of people who push and shove, who jump lines, who pay no attention of other people around them. Sullen and self-centred, you live an a cocoon of "me me me".

I'll tell you something else too - this country seems the worst place for it. We bottle up and bottle up, and then pop like a pressure cooker. Stiff Upper Lip? Maybe it's a bad thing...

This has nothing to do with an album by U2. This Joshua Tree is a bar and restaurant in Earlswood, Surrey - near to Redhill. I went there for dinner tonight with a friend. I was that impressed, I'm gonna give them a plug...

...you're sat in at home, watching a TV "fly-on-the-wall" thing about two "Bridget Jones-esque" single girls.

A recurring theme was the girls out in a club, watched from a safe distance by the camera. The music was almost always Destiny's Child... which made me think of this (watch out - there's Flash down that link).

They were there, singing along, that damn flash animation was all I could think of.

Oh, and despite "coming close" with several guys, the two girls ended the programme single again, and I'm no closer to understand what goes on in a woman's mind :-).

Night...

Are these people deaf or insane? You decide...

OK, I have had enough of the scum shit who cannot read instructions which explain how to unsubscribe from a mailing list. They send messages saying "Remove" to the list itself. Often time and time again.

One of the things most mailers do is send a "welcome to the list, now, here's how you get off it again once you have had enough" message. Doesn't get read, of course, and probably gets binned without a second glance.

I would love to find a mailing list that you can subscribe these no-hopers to - without their approval - so they can say "Remove" to their fellow eejits, for eternity. Hell, maybe some will even learn a lesson. We could even give them a gold star and a fudgecicle if they work out how to remove themselves.

I was told one exists, but I can't find it. If you know of it, tell me... I have a shit-list to add :-).

Side effects of too much air-conditioning

Posted by Mike @ 09:59 PM GMT [Link]

Whoa, I'm so tired. Not sleeping well at night right now. So many things on my mind, jet-lag, and heat have conspired to screw up my sleeping pattern big time. It's getting me just about now.

Also, work is kinda slow. Lots of things keep going into wait/sleep mode right now.

There's documentation and stuff which needs writing up right now, but I really am not in the mood for it. My brain feels numb enough as it is. If I do that, I'll go into sleep mode.
