08/11/2002 Entry: "The Joshua Tree"

This has nothing to do with an album by U2. This Joshua Tree is a bar and restaurant in Earlswood, Surrey - near to Redhill. I went there for dinner tonight with a friend. I was that impressed, I'm gonna give them a plug...

We we're lucky - we hadn't booked, but there had been a cancellation. Word has got out about this place, tucked away off the A23 on Earlswood Common, and it's common to have to book over a week in advance!

It's a "family and friends" run place - which means friendly, genuine service, and great quality, home-cooked food, and according to my friend, a menu which changes frequently, depending on what fresh ingredients are available.

A good selection of real ales are available - with 4 hand pumps. There's also a good selection of lager beers too - I noted Stella, Carlsberg, San Miguel on draught, and plenty in bottles too. A decent wine list (with a feature on Australian wines at the moment), and a good selection of after-dinner cigars - but only for smoking in the bar area - round things off. The restaurant is smoke-free.

If you are out in that direction, give the Joshua Tree a try. It's a refreshing change from the corporate Harvester/Beefeater crap out there. Their address is 30 Common Road, Earlswood Common, Redhill, Surrey. Phone 01737 211994.
